Medicare Advantage
You can get your Medicare benefits through Original Medicare, or a Medicare Advantage Plan (like an HMO or PPO). If you have Original Medicare, the government pays for Medicare benefits when you get them. Medicare Advantage Plans, sometimes called “Part C” or “MA Plans,” are offered by private companies approved by Medicare. Medicare pays these companies to cover your Medicare benefits. If you join a Medicare Advantage Plan, the plan will provide all of your Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) coverage.

Medicare Supplement
Medicare Supplement, or Medigap, insurance plans fill in “gaps” in basic benefits left behind by Original Medicare, Part A and Part B, such as deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments. Each Medicare Supplement insurance plan offers a different level of basic benefits, but each lettered plan must include the same standardized basic benefits regardless of insurance company and location.

Medicare Part D Drug Plan
Medicare’s prescription drug benefit (Part D) is the part of Medicare that provides outpatient drug coverage. Part D is provided only through private insurance companies that have contracts with the federal government—it is never provided directly by the government (unlike Original Medicare).

Life Insurance
Life insurance policy is the best way to ensure that your loved ones are protected. As both a financial and emotional decision, it is a tool to protect your family from potentially disastrous financial losses in the future if you die prematurely. Your policy can proved a specified amount of money to your named beneficiary to cover any expenses they mave, like mortgages, college savings or funeral expenses.

Dental and Vision
Original Medicare plans do not pay for most regular or preventative dental or vision care. So any routine dental appointments or vision exams will not be paid for. Medicare usually only pays for dental care needed to treat and/or diagnose an illness. For vision, Medicare will usually pay for vision exams or eyewear that is related to specific illness or surgery as well. This is where additional insurance outside of your basic Medicare plan is helpful.

Hospital Indemnity
Hospital indemnity insurance is a flexible supplemental coverage plan meant to pay for the costs from a hospital admission that might not be covered by your normal insurance. Policyholders are able to choose a plan based on a specific, fixed-amount benefit for each day you’re in the hospital.

Annuities
Annuities can help you build tax-deferred savings to help offset retirement costs, like healthcare and living expenses. You should pick the annuity that will most help you achieve your retirement goals. Specific benefits can be focused down, including delaying Social Security or receiving guaranteed payments.
